desconstruct and Reconstruct (Inspiration Alexander Mcqueen Highlands rape collection 1996)

My first project was based on deconstruct and reconstruct. I had to work on the stand and created designs from used clothes that was brought from charity shops, this gave me a chance to be more creative has ive never actually done anything like that before i normally would make things from scratch. however the importance of this project was to get us to think outside the box, to design garments that we wouldnt normally make; for instance it doesnt have to look like a dress but when it is illustrated you can make it into anything, by adding fastening pockets e.t.c. i enjoyed this project because the outcomes was different to what i would normally make and if i was asked to do this like 2 years ago i wouldnt have been interested because i would say these designs are not my style.

Midlands Young Fashion Designer Award

I entered into the Midland Young fashion Award around June/July and i got into the finalist which was chosen by the designer Gavin Douglas. I was very please with this because it showed that a designer actually liked my style of designs. Yesterdsay was the actually event and i enejoyed every single moment of it the fashion show the experience of getting myself out there for people to know who i am and what my style is.
My style of designs makes loud statements that speaks for itself and that was exactly what i did for the show. I had a lot of people commenting on my designs especially two young girls who wanted to  and the way in wish i was dressed on the night(i customers my outfit for the night)

Last week i had a interview with The Birmingham Mail it was amazing because it was exactly what i needed ( the exposure) the article came out 21st/oct/2011( you can get the backdate copy my calling birmingham mail). I am very please and happy with myself becaus i made it to the final of the competition. so proud of myself.

the video will be uploaded soon.

Designs over the years

Have a look at some of the designs i have done over the years of studying fashion...... let me know what you think.

This collection was base on haute fashion designs that stood out to me on the runways from some of the designers that had inspired me.
This collection was based on the use of energy, i choose to look at the sun our main energy source and the solar energy. I love the boldness of this design.
This collection was based on arhitecture the amazing buildings that birmingham city centre has. I wanted my design to have structure but to have a wonderful surface embellishment that would bring of the design.
I made this skirt for my GCSE textile subject i was happy because this showed me that i had a talent and this was the beginning of my career as a fashion designer.

Midlands fashion Award finalist work(Contour to the stand) Draping

I want this particular design to have a mixture of structure as i am in love with it and elegance by showing of the curves of the body.

This design needed a bodice as the base, so that the draping would sit onto the body properly. I was very pleased with the way the pleats looked because it add drama and boldness to my design.

I love how this looks, i love the structure and how the pleats overlaps into the creating it.

This is just the beginning of how the actual piece would look like.. i love the way how it looks structured and elegant. This is a signature design....love it love it love it...

Exhibtion Photos( THURSDAY 16TH JUNE @6:30)

'Out Of Many One People' collection( the garments)

This collection as been influenced by Jamaica hence the cultural motto" Out Of Many One People ". I was looking at how the hurricanes that had affected Jamaica took lives and destroying people's homes. I wanted to call people's attention away from hear say and to look at other relevant things that are more important, such as this. I wanted to share with others the beauty of Jamaica because a lot of people as their assumption about the country and it is all to do with what the media as portraited about the country. I wanted to make a colelction that is informative and fashionable to wear, and i believe i have achieved that.

The front view:  I love seeing this 2 piece because when i look at it i can see my progression.:-)
The back view: I love the view of this because it just shows off the curves and the surface of the garment; especially becasue it hugs the tree.
The second 2 piece garment to the collection. This takes more of a traditional Jamaican approach but in a modern way. I love the head wrap.
The back view:  I love the bold prints on the back of the garment. However the calico and the cotton striped fabric workS well together. I am soo proud of myself its unbelieveable.:-)

Current Ideas/Plans

I'm currently working on some "creative head bands"the reason why I have decided to make head bands even though I'm a fashion designer, its simple because a lot of the young girls like to wear them as accessories, to school e.t.c from this I will be giving them out to certain shops. This will help to advertise myself and I want to see how far I can get with this idea. I am very excited just praying that they sell to the right market target..

'Out Of Many One People'

Waiting for my grade on this collection, I hope it goes in my favour...in the meantime I'm getting myself ready for the Midlands fashion awards collection, I'm going to put my all out on this collection; the more experience I get, the better designer I'll be.
